Since the dawning of DNA evidence there have been a number of convictions overturned and prisoners released from detention. It is a joyous occasions for families and loved ones to be there that day when a wrongly convicted, innocent person comes out from the dark place of prison.
But what resplendent joy; what heavenly bliss ought there be for the fallen human soul, who through the penal substitution of the One willing to take the right conviction due them, to offer His life for theirs, to remain under the penalty of death and its execution - in their stead -that they may be perfectly, completely and forever pardoned! This is surely one of those historical events we as Christians ought to deeply reflect upon daily.
Catch a glimpse of the holiness of God and the cast an honest eye upon yourself to see the great disparity between you and He. The gap is immeasurable. Yet he came, as we celebrated just days ago, to take your place, to keep you from hell's dungeon; to voluntarily and freely spill his blood that you might be forever perfectly pardoned. Fully forgiven of all that would rightly convict to death row; of all that would bind you to the place of eternal, never-ending, just torture and torment for your vile rebellion - can there be any greater joyous occasion? How can we not daily bow with great humility and love to Him who took it all for us? Does it not take us to a maze of wonder and worship and praise?
Who, now, do you serve, friend? As there was a mountain of evidence against you to condemn you that now is vanished, I ask; what evidence is there now upon your hands that would demonstrate your gratitude to Jesus for his heroic action for your very soul? O, bow before the Throne which absolves you, grasp the cross that delivers you and serve for the number of your remaining days the incarnate God who came such a distance for you. Surely, His mercy, love and grace is a constellation of wonders on which the redeemed soul can never weary.
